Scott McClain

Scott William McClain, loving husband, father, son and grandfather, was lost on Oct. 23, 2020 after a courageous battle with an aggressive work-related cancer. He sacrificed his life serving others as a firefighter and is considered a Line of Duty Death.

Scott attended Chugiak Elementary, Gruening Junior High and Chugiak High School, graduating in 1993 from Chugiak High. He was a real Alaskan.

He joined the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 16 as a Junior Firefighter and served there until being hired on with Anchorage Fire Department in 2001. Scott also worked for the State of Alaska, Division of Forestry, as a wildland firefighter out of Mat-Su Forestry. Scott was passionate about helping his peers and friends with service-related trauma and health and was an integral part of the Soldier’s Heart Program, supporting first responders with critical incident stress.

Scott’s name was added to the wall of honor for the fallen by his Father, William McClain, retired from the Chugiak Fire Department, his daughter Lt. Kaylee McClain of the Chugiak Fire Department, Captain Ben Dembowski of the Anchorage Fire Department and Firefighter Norm Cambell of the Anchorage fie Department.
